Don’t Just Listen to the Pastor—Walk With God Yourself
This blog encourages readers to deepen their personal relationship with God beyond attending church or listening to sermons. While pastors play a vital role in guiding and teaching, the true spiritual journey comes from walking with God individually. It emphasizes the importance of personal prayer, reflection, and studying the Bible to develop a closer connection with God. The post explores how faith grows through personal experiences, making the relationship with God more authentic and fulfilling. Readers are inspired to take ownership of their spiritual walk and cultivate a faith that extends beyond the church walls.

I’ve seen this happen so often—people go to church on Sunday, sit down, hear a good message, maybe even say “Amen,” and then go home like nothing really changed. Somewhere along the line, we started thinking that as long as we listen to a pastor or attend regularly, our relationship with God is “covered.”
But here’s the truth God showed me:
He didn’t call us into a religion. He called us into a relationship.
The Bible? It’s not just a book for pastors or teachers. It’s a personal letter—from God—to every single heart that’s willing to listen.
“These words I command you today shall be on your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children…
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand.”
— Deuteronomy 6:6–8
It was never meant to be filtered only through someone else’s voice. Your story, your journey, your struggles—they’re personal. That’s why the Holy Spirit was given to you, not just to those who preach from a pulpit.
Now don’t get me wrong:
This isn’t about disrespecting pastors—they’re a gift to the Church.
But I’m saying this with love—you’ve got to walk with God yourself.
God wants to speak to you, too.
Maybe not always through an audible voice—but through peace, through tears, through music, a scene in a movie, or even a quiet moment you didn’t expect. I’ve experienced this so many times. There were days I broke down and just cried out to God, and He answered me—not with words, but with a shift in my heart I could never explain. I knew it wasn’t from me—it had to be Him.
So how can you start walking with God yourself?
Read the Bible slowly. Even 5 minutes is a start. Just ask, “God, what are You showing me here?”
Write down your questions. You don’t have to be perfect—God welcomes honest hearts.
Talk to Him like a friend. Don’t worry about fancy prayers. Just speak from where you are.
Live what you read. You don’t need full understanding to take small steps of obedience.
Final Thoughts
Some people may laugh at this. Some might call it “too emotional” or “nonsense.” Even I’ve been rejected and made fun of for saying things like this—including by people close to me. But real faith?
It doesn’t always look like the crowd.
Sometimes it’s just one person, quietly walking with God, trusting Him day by day.
You don’t need to be a scholar. You don’t need to “have it all together.”
You just need to be honest—and willing to take one step toward the One who’s already walking toward you.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
— James 4:8
